Coronavirus Please check back to this webpage frequently for important updates to information and resources during the COVID-19 pandemic.

**PLEASE NOTE: 2020-21 reopening plans for each school building can be located under the "2020-21 REOPENING PLAN" folder in the document container below. Plans are also located on each building's website. Please visit the individual building website to see a translated reopening document using the website's built-in translation feature at the top of the page.

We utilize a set calendar of two (2) cohorts of students. Cohort "1" students have in-person instruction on Mondays and Tuesdays. Cohort "2" students have in-person instruction on Thursdays and Fridays. Remote instruction for all students is on Wednesdays. Students in either cohort that are not in school for in-person instruction, receive meaningful engagement and participate in asynchronous learning.

Please be advised that we are doing all we can to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for all students and staff, while trying to allow for a school day that is normal, as we are all used to. Parents and/or legal guardians of students are encouraged to drop off or walk students to school in order to reduce student densities on buses.

Direction for our reopening plans came from the NYS Education Department, as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and NYS Department of Health.

Virtual Learning Support Centers:

Thanks to the generosity of Erie County CARES Act Child Care Funding, Lackawanna City School District is partnering with YWCA WNY to provide free Virtual Learning Support Centers/School Age Child Care to Lackawanna families for income eligible families (households at 85% NYS Median or lower; $100,377 for a family of four). Learn more about these centers in the documents below:

Testing & Contact Tracing:

Any individual who screens positive for COVID-19 exposure or symptoms must be immediately sent home with instructions to contact their health care provider for assessment and testing. Our district will immediately contact the Erie County Department of Health, which will direct the district on a case-by-case basis. The school district will not administer or be responsible for any COVID-19 testing. The district will assist the Erie County Department of Health with contact tracing if so directed.

The Erie County Department of Health has provided the following charts to help our school community understand their procedures and protocols:

Metrics for Closure:

The Lackawanna City School District will follow guidance from state and local resources, particularly New York State (Department of Health) and Erie County Department of Health, regarding regional data that may dictate a school closure/dismissal through determined parameters, conditions or metrics.

If school data at the Lackawanna City School District surrounding identified COVID-19 cases raises to a similar level for a regional closure, but the region continues to maintain lower rates, the district will again work with the Erie County Department of Health regarding proper metrics that would lead to a school closure/dismissal. These decisions/infection rates will dictate the proper instructional model of either a hybrid approach or fully virtual instruction.

Report Card for COVID-19 Data in Schools:

New York school districts will be providing the Department of Health with daily data on the number of people who have tested positive for COVID-19. For more details, please see the COVID-19 Report Card for Schools.
