Several fourth and fifth grade girls from Martin Road Elementary were given the opportunity to participate in a program called Girls on the Run.
Girls on the Run is a 10-week program. The goal of this program is for the participating girls to increase both life and leadership skills while training for a 5K race. Through this program, the girls learn to become motivated, create new friendships, build confidence, and learn about teamwork and trust. The girls also worked on proper running form and technique as well as strength and conditioning exercises.
The Girls on the Run end-of-season 5K took place on Nov. 9 at Delaware Park. Each of the girls crossed the finish line along with their running buddies, which were made up of family members, friends and faculty of Martin Road Elementary.
The students, their families, and the participating faculty from Martin Road Elementary enjoyed training for and running in the Girls on the Run 5K race!
