Students wear hand-made hats

Second grade students in Mrs. Marcin and Ms. Stachowski's class participated in a Mystery Science lesson titled, "Why Do We Wear Clothes." In the lesson, students pretend to be stranded on an island and need to protect themselves from the sun by using only supplies from their lunch box. Supplies included a paper plate, aluminum foil, string, a clip and a paper towel.  Students used their problem-solving skills and creativity to construct their hats. With their understanding of a material's texture, flexibility and absorbency, students created hats to protect their skin from the sun as they await rescue from the island.
