Martin Road Elementary was buzzing with music, movement and joy as select classrooms were treated to a high-energy dance party hosted by local favorites DJ Milk and DJ Yes. The celebration was a well-earned reward for the school’s enthusiastic participation in the Independent Health Fitness for Kids Challenge, an initiative designed to promote lifelong healthy habits in children.

Throughout the school year, Martin Road students embraced the challenge during their physical education classes, committing themselves to the program’s simple but impactful daily wellness goals known as 9-5-2-1-0-You:

  • 9 hours of sleep each night

  • 5 servings of fruits and vegetables

  • 2 hours or less of recreational screen time

  • 1 hour or more of physical activity

  • 0 sugary drinks

  • And, most importantly, taking care of YOU — mentally, emotionally and socially

With support from PE teachers, students tracked their healthy habits and worked toward meeting these goals consistently. Their dedication and enthusiasm didn’t go unnoticed. As a reward for their efforts, Independent Health partnered with DJ Milk and DJ Yes to throw an unforgettable dance party that had the school grooving.

The gymnasium was transformed into a mini-concert venue, complete with booming beats and plenty of dance moves. DJ Milk and DJ Yes kept the energy high, interacting with students, leading dance battles, and turning the celebration into a moment of pure fun and fitness.

The Fitness for Kids Challenge continues to be a cornerstone of student wellness programming at Martin Road Elementary, helping children build lifelong habits through education, encouragement, and — as they learned — a little dancing, too.
