Dear Lackawanna Family:
Twenty-four years ago, a series of tragic events claimed the lives of so many innocent people, including those who courageously rushed in to help others. Their bravery, sacrifice, and compassion continue to inspire us, and we must never allow ourselves to forget that day or the days and weeks that followed.
While this tragedy brought unimaginable grief and uncertainty, it also revealed the strength of our nation. A spirit of unity was born, one where Americans came together to support one another, to serve, and to stand strong.
As students and future leaders, it is important to honor this day by showing kindness, practicing empathy, and serving others. Whether it is helping a classmate, thanking a first responder, or simply being a good citizen, small acts of compassion and respect help us build a stronger, more caring community for all.
On Thursday, September 11, please join me in a moment of silence [8:46 a.m.] in honor of the many lives lost on this day, lives that will live on forever in our hearts.
An email from our Principal of Social Studies, LOTE, and Library Media Science, Carmelina Persico, will follow with resources teachers can use to support conversations with their students.
