Dear Parents and Guardians,
The safety of our students, staff, and community members remains our highest priority. To further strengthen security measures within our schools, we are introducing the OPENGATE Weapons Detection System. This system is designed to provide an added layer of protection by quickly and efficiently screening individuals as they enter school buildings.
Implementation Schedule:
The rollout of the system will take place as follows:
Middle School / High School – October 7 and 8
Martin Road – October 8 and 9
Truman Elementary – October 9 and 10
Daily Use Requirement:
Beginning on these dates, all students and community members will be required to pass through the OPENGATE Weapons Detection System when entering the building. This process is designed to be fast, minimally disruptive, and respectful of individual privacy, while maintaining the highest standards of school safety.
What This Means for Students and Families:
The system does not require the removal of personal items such as backpacks or school supplies unless prompted by the system.
Staff will be available to assist students as they get accustomed to this process.
We appreciate your cooperation and support as we implement this important safety measure. Together, we can ensure that our schools remain welcoming, secure environments where learning and growth can thrive.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your building principal or the district office.
Thank you for your understanding and continued partnership in keeping our school community safe.
Sincerely,
Adriann Johnson
Assistant Superintendent
