In Ms. Blackburn’s second grade class, students use Kagan Structures to practice the counting-on strategy for addition. Working in pairs, one student shares a number while the other “counts on” from that number to find the sum.
They take turns explaining their thinking aloud, helping each other stay engaged and build confidence. This cooperative approach encourages active participation and strengthens their understanding of addition in a fun, interactive way.
