Our 4th grade students in Mrs. Godzich's class are mastering the summarizing strategy SWBST: "Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then!" To help remember each part, students learned a catchy song, adding movement and music for a multisensory learning experience that made the lesson come alive!
After singing together, the class reviewed an anchor chart to reinforce what each part of SWBST means. Using an expert passage, students followed directions to color-code each part of the passage, engaging both visual and kinesthetic learning styles. The lesson concluded with an IXL activity for an opportunity for students to check their understanding of this summarizing strategy.
It was a fun, interactive, and hands-on way to build strong comprehension skills!
