Students work on math in class.

Mrs. Baillo's fifth grade students have been busy strengthening their math skills by working on adding decimals. Through hands-on activities and real-world problem solving, students are learning how decimals connect to money, measurements and everyday situations.

In class, students practice lining up decimal points, using place value charts and explaining their thinking with math models and written strategies. They work both independently and collaboratively, checking their work and supporting one another as they refine their accuracy and confidence.

This focus on decimal addition helps students build a strong foundation for future math learning, including multiplication and division of decimals. Most importantly, students are developing perseverance and problem-solving skills as they learn that making mistakes is part of the learning process. It has been exciting to see their growth and confidence as mathematicians continue to shine.
