Martin Road students play on their new playground.

Martin Road Elementary marked a historic milestone today with the celebration of its very first playground being built, recognizing the occasion with a special ribbon cutting ceremony.

Students and staff gathered outside to kick off the event with opening remarks, recognizing Mr. Michael Sanders for his extraordinary generosity. His charitable donation made the construction of the playground possible, turning a long-awaited vision into a reality for the Martin Road community.

In honor of his contribution, the playground was officially dedicated to Mr. Sanders, featuring a commemorative bench that reads, “Thank you, Mr. Sanders for making play possible! 2026.”

Mr. Sanders, joined by Martin Road leadership, had the honor of cutting the ribbon and opening the playground to its first group of students. Moments later, students utilized the new space for the first time, enjoying a morning filled with laughter, movement and play on their brand new equipment.

This special day would not have been possible without the generosity of Mr. Sanders, along with the continued support of district leadership and the Board of Education. Our Martin Road and district community is incredibly grateful for this lasting investment in its students and can't wait to see this playground continue to flourish for years to come!

We look forward to the official opening in the future!
