Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back! I hope you and your family had a safe, enjoyable, and restful summer. As we begin a new school year, I am excited to welcome our students back and look forward to working together to create a positive, supportive, and successful school experience for every student. This is my 26th year in education and 18th as an administrator! I am excited to serve our students, staff, and community! Ms. Bender and Mr. Brown return as Assistant Principals here at the high school, and they are both ready for an amazing school year!
One of the most important ways we can support student success is through regular and consistent school attendance. Simply put, being in school matters. Every day provides students with opportunities to engage in meaningful instruction, build relationships with teachers and peers, participate in the school community, and make progress toward graduation.
We recognize that there will be times when a student must be absent or tardy due to illness, appointments, family circumstances, or other appropriate reasons. When this occurs, we ask parents and guardians to communicate with the school and provide proper documentation for all absences and tardies.
Please help us by:
Making regular, on-time attendance a priority.
Notifying the school when your child will be absent or tardy.
Providing appropriate written documentation or other required documentation following an absence or tardy.
Communicating with the school if your family is experiencing circumstances that are creating barriers to regular attendance.
Our goal is to ensure that our students are present, engaged, supported, and learning every day. When patterns of absences or tardiness develop, our school team will work with students and families to identify barriers and provide support whenever possible. Thank you for your continued partnership and for helping us reinforce the importance of showing up, being on time, and being ready to learn.
I am excited about the year ahead and the opportunities we will have to continue raising expectations for every student, every day!
Sincerely,
Joe Cappadonia,
Principal, Lackawanna High School
