Lauren Vargovich with awards

With over a decade teaching, Ms. Lauren Vargovich has been recognized for her contributions to the educational community by being named a New York State Master Teacher.

Since 2017, Ms. Vargovich has taught physical science to the young minds at Lackawanna Middle School. Earlier this month, she was one of just 230 teachers inducted into the NYS Master Teachers Program, Western Region, for her dedication to integrating STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) into K-12 education.

Ms. Vargovich is an impassioned educator who understands the importance of building relationships and creating engaging and collaborative lessons to reach every student. Ms. Vargovich actively participates in professional development opportunities within and outside the Lackawanna City School District.

All Master Teachers are active beyond their classrooms, serving as leaders, advisors and mentors in their districts. Ms. Vargovich is a valuable member of the Lackawanna Science Department and a leader of initiatives in the school. Ms. Vargovich is a co-advisor for The Inventive Thinking Club and advises a Wellness Club. She also helped create the Harbor Room clothing closet at Lackawanna Middle School for students in need.

She was also a part of the team learned to fly drones as part of the curriculum for the new STEAM course.

“I am honored to be named a New York State Master Teacher and I’m eager to collaborate with educators through this platform,” she said.

The process to apply to be a Master Teacher is very selective, making this a true testament to Ms. Vargovich’s passion and talent. She and other Master Teachers in the Western Region will be honored at a reception at Buffalo State.
